Tweed River Festival

Saturday the 24th October 2009, will see the Jack Evans boat harbour come alive for the finale of the Tweed River Festival. The Paddle challenge will see teams competing in inflatable rescue boats over a 120m course with a Le Mans start from 1pm. As the sun goes down the lantern parade will circle the harbour followed by the fireworks spectacular.

Repco Rally plus Speed on Tweed

Car racing lovers will be in heaven 3rd to 6th September 09 as round 10 of the World Rally Championship is held around the Tweed and Kyogle shires. What a great boost for the region with the 19 previous Australian rallies held in Perth. Is that's not enough, the sight and sound of historic racing cars in the popular Festival of Speed on Tweed will return to the streets of Murwillumbah as part of the Repco Rally Australia entertainment program. Speed on Tweed, in which around 200 historic racing cars of many types and some of Australia’s best drivers of past years race against the block on closed public roads, will be staged on 5-6 September. The event will be run on a one-kilometre temporary circuit, similar to that used in previous years, which also will be used on three nights as a Super Special Stage by competitors in the Repco Rally Australia World Rally Championship round on 3-6 September.

As if the Wintersun Festival isn't enough to keep you occupied over the Queens birthday long weekend, arrangements are now finalised for Queensland Sports Management to host in conjunction with the Gold Coast-Tweed resorts a 4 stage race tour based in Kingscliff, Tweed valley over the 3 days of the June long weekend.
Team QSM will deliver a brilliant Tour in the most beautiful beachside and toughest mountains on the eastern seaboard. Four race stages will be held including a night-time criterium; road race, time trial and prologue.
The tour village will be based at the Domain Resort Kingscliff on the Casuarina Beach, providing a hub for social activities including bars, entertainment, food and local bands.
Local resorts at Salt, Mantra have joined together to offer weekend accommodation packages which can be booked online when registration opens late next week.
The concept for this tour, is relax or party whilst enjoying the 5 star services of the various resorts, then prepare to race hard on those reputed bergs’ across the Tweed valley.
Tour Organisers are expecting up to 400 interstate, local racers and teams to register for this event which is expected to grow over the coming three years, following a similar path as the Tour Down Under which this year attracted over 830,000 spectators.
Cycling Queensland and QSM are also excited to announce the launch of the Gran Fondo, mass participation ride for the Sunday morning. This is a family, social ride over 3 distances - 50kms, 75kms and 120kms through the valley, across the mountains. Anyone is welcome - you just need two wheels !! Gran Fondo organisers expect up to 1000 registrations. We expect many people who recently rode the Brisbane to Gold Coast fun ride to participate and really enjoy this event.

From the Wintersun website: Wintersun 2009 starts on Friday 29th May and ends with the huge Best of Wintersun Concert on Monday 8th June. Wintersun is Australia's leading annual Retro Nostalgia Festival. Featuring almost 1500 Hot Rods, Custom and Classic Cars, more than 100 bands and performers, dancing, movies, and competitions. The festival is held in the border coastal towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads on the New South Wales & Queensland border. Many events are free, some are in the streets while others are in the local clubs and shopping centres.
